Brad Childress and Vikings agree to extension

ESPN is reporting that The Minnesota Vikings and head coach Brad Childress have agreed to a contract extension that would go through 2013. The deal is reportedly worth $4-5 million per season. The fact that the Vikings are off to an 8-1 start behind Adrian Peterson and Brett Favre could be the key motivation but how would the Vikes be doing this season without the addition of Favre? The Vikings obviously had the key pieces in place but without Favre this could be a whole different conversation.
In his first year as head coach Childress lead the Vikings to a 6-10 record. 8-8 in the 2007 season and 10-6 last year. Having an experienced, veteran quarterback seems to be the difference since the Vikes are an impressive 8-1 this season. Based on that are the Vikings 8-1 because of Childress or is a majority of the credit due to Favre?
