Twins pick up Cuddyer’s $10.5 million option

The off season continues for the Twins today as they exercised Cuddyer’s $10.5 million option for the 2011 season. Cuddyer was already under contract for 2010, but was unsure if the Twins would pick up the option for the 2011 season. Cuddyer had a career year with the Twins in ’09 and was a critical piece down the stretch to help the Twins clinch the AL Central. He crushed his previous home run record of 24 by launching 32 in 2009. Cuddyer hit for a .352 average, seven home runs and 22 RBIs after Morneau was out for the season with a stress fracture.

Cuddyer has been a huge piece of the Twins success and it’s clear with this move and with Gomez trading that the Twins see Cuddyer as a part of the future outfield core. The Twins still have a few key positions to lock up at second, third and the starting rotation but this move ensures the Twins will have a right handed power hitter for at least the next few seasons.
